Makowiec is a traditional Polish pastry made with poppy seeds, often enjoyed during holidays or special occasions. The two-ingredient version is a simple yet delicious way to prepare this treat without the complexity of many classic recipes. Using only a few ingredients, you can easily make a sweet, comforting dessert that still embodies the essence of the traditional Polish makowiec.
Ingredients:
1 can of sweetened condensed milk (about 400g)
250g of poppy seeds (finely ground)
Directions:
Prepare the Poppy Seeds: Start by grinding the poppy seeds if they’re not already ground. You can use a coffee grinder or food processor for this step to ensure they are finely ground.
Mix the Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk with the ground poppy seeds. Stir until fully incorporated into a smooth, thick mixture.
Shape the Roll: Lay out a sheet of parchment paper on a flat surface. Spread the poppy seed mixture evenly over the parchment, forming a rectangular shape. Make sure the layer is about 1–2 cm thick for the best texture.
Roll it Up: Carefully lift the parchment paper and roll the poppy seed mixture into a log, just like a jelly roll. Ensure that the roll is tightly packed, and the ends are sealed.
Chill and Slice: Place the roll in the refrigerator for about 1-2 hours to firm up. Once chilled, slice the roll into rounds, as thick or thin as you like.
