Introduction
Sałatka z pora i szynki is a traditional Polish salad that combines the mild, crisp flavor of leeks with the savory taste of ham. This refreshing dish can be served as a side or a light main course. It’s easy to prepare and packed with flavor, making it a favorite for gatherings, picnics, or even a quick family dinner. The creaminess of the dressing pairs wonderfully with the crunchy leeks and tender ham, offering a perfect balance of textures and tastes.

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium leeks (washed, trimmed, and sliced thinly)
  • 200 g of cooked ham (diced)
  • 1 small onion (finely chopped)
  • 3 tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon of sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon of Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Directions:

  1. Start by preparing the leeks. Clean them thoroughly and slice them thinly. Place them in a bowl and cover them with cold water for a few minutes to remove any dirt. Drain and set aside.
  2. Dice the cooked ham and finely chop the onion.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine the leeks, ham, and onion. Add the dressing mixture and stir to coat everything evenly.
  5. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed, adding more salt or pepper if desired.
  6. Transfer the salad to a serving dish and garnish with fresh parsley if you like.

Serving and Storage Tips:

  • This salad is best served chilled, so allow it to rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to let the flavors meld together.
  • It can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. The salad may become slightly softer over time, but the flavor will still remain fresh.
  • If you’re preparing the salad in advance, store the dressing separately and combine it with the ingredients just before serving to keep the texture crisp.
