Łaciaty Blok Czekoladowy – A Polish Delight

Łaciaty blok czekoladowy, often referred to as “chocolate block,” is a popular Polish dessert that combines the richness of chocolate with the crunch of biscuits, creating a delightful treat. This no-bake recipe is incredibly easy to prepare, making it a go-to for any occasion. Its unique appearance, resembling a marble-like pattern with alternating layers of chocolate and biscuit, gives it an artistic touch while delivering an unforgettable taste. Perfect for family gatherings or a simple sweet snack, this dessert is sure to satisfy any chocolate lover.

Ingredients:

  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 200g milk chocolate
  • 100g butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 200g digestive biscuits or tea biscuits
  • 50g dried fruits (raisins, cranberries, or apricots, optional)
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Directions:

  1. Prepare the Chocolate Mixture: In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark and milk chocolate along with the butter, sugar, and milk. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method), stirring until smooth and well combined. Once melted, remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract.
  2. Crush the Biscuits: Break the digestive biscuits into small pieces (not crumbs, but bite-sized pieces) and place them in a large mixing bowl. If using dried fruits, chop them into smaller pieces and add them to the biscuits.
  3. Combine the Ingredients: Pour half of the melted chocolate mixture over the crushed biscuits and dried fruits. Stir gently to coat the biscuits evenly. Add the remaining chocolate mixture and mix until all the biscuits are well coated.
  4. Set the Mixture: Line a loaf pan or a rectangular baking dish with parchment paper. Pour the chocolate-biscuit mixture into the pan, pressing it down gently to ensure it’s compact. Smooth the top with a spatula.
  5. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight, until the chocolate block is firm and set.

Serving and Storage Tips:

  • Slice the chilled Łaciaty blok czekoladowy into small squares or slices for serving. It’s perfect with a cup of coffee or tea.
  • Store the dessert in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week. It can also be kept in the freezer for longer storage. Before serving, allow it to thaw for a few minutes.

Variations:

  • Nutty Delight: Add chopped nuts like walnuts, almonds, or hazelnuts to the mixture for an extra crunch.
  • Fruity Twist: Instead of dried fruits, use fresh fruits like strawberries or blueberries for a refreshing variation.
  • Vegan Option: Replace the butter with coconut oil and use dairy-free chocolate and milk to make a vegan version of this dessert.
